Point of the Day: Food Pyramid Sucks
Unfortunately, the outdated food pyramid emphasizes excessive amounts of grains and breads, and continues to be preached by nutritionists and the educational system worldwide. This emphasis on carbohydrates can lead to a host of health problems (diabetes anyone?) and decreased performance (not just in sport, in life).

Jonny Bowden, a board-certified nutrition specialist and a nationally known expert on weight loss and nutrition
, suggests this alternative, “It would probably be more like a circle with about 70% of calories divided equally among protein, fat, and fibrous vegetables and fruits; another 10% for nuts, another 10% for beans, and an optional 10% for grains.”

  1. Hey Phil,
it’s Kevin Muno. Long time no see. Hope all is well. What about dairy? Should chocalate milk and milk only be consumed after workouts? What about before you go to sleep?

  2. Hey Kevin, good to hear from you. No dairy is needed, in fact this category generally causes problems at some point (lactose intolerance, inflammation of mucosa, high sugar content in milk/yogurt, etc.) Chocolate milk is only good as a cheap alternative for post workout supplement.
