The Balance of Power Between Coaches and Athletes
With the escalating salaries of professional athletes trickling down to impending stardom for high school and college players, the expertise of coaching has been degraded progressively over the last 2 decades.

At Sparta, we do not have a total dictatorship, though I jokingly refer to our facility as a sovereign country when speaking with our athletes. I highly value our athletes’ opinions and instincts, especially the older individuals who hopefully have learned more about their bodies’ unique intricacies.

However, as coaches, we are the experts who should know what is best for the athlete, based on our practical experience and research that supports specific exercise modalities. We cannot continue to ignore that some exercises (i.e. squat) are meant for everyone, regardless of their body segment length, sport or level.
