I had a great visit today from Philadelphia Phillies strength coach. Dong Lien. Among many issues, we discussed the value of squatting. Unfortunately the squat is often labeled as a limiting movement due to its “uniplanar” nature. Some would argue this vital movement only occurs in the saggital plane shown in the diagram to the right.
However, proper squatting form involves slight external rotation of the feet to allow full depth (hamstrings touch the calves, ass to grass, etc.). This foot position should also be accompanied by abduction (outward movement) of the thighs to involve other planes of movement.
