Depth Jumps

Many programs are using Vertimax as a way to increase vertical jump. The Vertimax uses resistance bands hooked up the waist that pulls the athlete downwards, followed by jumps without these bands.

Jumping is a skill, and therefore attaching any equipment to the body (weight, bands, etc.) will change the way that skill is performed, significantly reducing the carryover to sport movements where this equipment is not present.

A good solution is the depth jump, stepping off a box onto the ground and anticipating the landing to jump as high as possible upon ground contact. A 2008 study out of Cal State Fullerton, actually even compared the above common jump training movements, depth jump training is more beneficial than VertiMax jump training for increasing vertical jump height.
