Point of the Day: Nature vs. Nurture

I continue to be amazed at the large, reliable performance improvements in our athletes, tangible increases in vertical jumps and running times that I haven’t seen anywhere else I’ve had the opportunity to serve.

It’s not just the coaching, culture plays a huge role, maybe bigger than the training program itself. Goes back to the whole nature vs. nurture debate, defined by Wikipedia as the relative importance of an individual’s innate qualities (“nature”) versus personal experiences (“nurture”). As coaches, we have a great responsibility to both train athletes with the best movements and in the right environment.
