Menlo Park, CA –  Sparta Science, developer of a scalable, machine learning-based technical solution for objectively measuring neuromusculoskeletal health and improving physical readiness for uniformed service men and women, has been awarded multiple AFWERX Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I contracts through the United States Air Force.

Sparta Science will use this opportunity to conduct further research and development focused on protecting the musculoskeletal health and improving overall physical readiness of the Air Force, while reducing unnecessary attrition of our Airmen. Sparta Science uses Force Plate Machine Learning™ to assess performance and risk of injury and improve the rehabilitation process leading to increased readiness in our armed forces.

AFWERX, a part of the Air Force Research Laboratory, is a community of Air Force innovators striving to empower small businesses to bring solutions to the Department of Defense (DoD), specifically the United States Air Force and its Airmen. Areas of focus include funding, collaboration, guidance and expertise.

“We are excited by the opportunity to work with the USAF and find ways to improve Airmen musculoskeletal health and increase unit readiness. Individual fitness is key to unit readiness. Improving it and providing commanders with visibility of unit-level readiness will improve the Air Force’s overall readiness.” said Sparta Science CEO and founder Dr. Phil Wagner.  “We are grateful that the Department of the Air Force’s AFWERX program has been so successful in identifying small businesses to lead research and development projects.”

Sparta Science is actively pursuing follow on Phase II projects for each Phase I award. By receiving these contracts, Sparta Science is eligible to establish a Phase III sole-source contract to streamline commercialization and government customer access to Sparta Science’s capabilities.

The results of this USAF sponsored research will benefit all current and future Sparta Science users.
